Welcome to Silent Script

Introduction Workshop — An Invitation to Free Wandering

A brushstroke across paper. A silent bird in a painting. A verse that lingers like autumn air. Silent Script is an invitation into stillness — where art, poetry, and reflection meet.

Discover Bada Shanren’s Quiet Masterpieces

At the heart of the workshop are the enigmatic paintings of Bada Shanren, a 17th-century Chinese artist whose work carries silence, ambiguity, and subtle humor. His flowers, birds, and fish appear simple yet speak with hidden depth. Each painting becomes a mirror, waiting for your own reflection.

Waka Poetry: Gentle Melancholy in Words

Alongside these paintings, you will be introduced to waka, an ancient Japanese poetic form of just 31 syllables. Waka poems capture fleeting emotions with elegant restraint: longing, melancholy, a quiet joy. You’ll see how a few words, placed carefully, can hold an entire season of feeling. Sometimes, these verses will be shown in flowing kana script — an art form in itself.

Xiaoyao You — The Art of Free Wandering

Silent Script is not only about painting and poetry; it is also about wandering freely, inspired by Zhuangzi’s vision of Xiaoyao You. In his philosophy, true freedom is to move without boundaries, without being bound by labels or goals.

Here, you are invited to experience your own free wandering:

To follow a brushstroke as it drifts into silence.

To let a poem open into memory or dream.

To rest in reflection without pressure to achieve or perform.

Each turn is sky. Each step is freedom. Nothing is forced, nothing is bound.

AI Companions for Reflection

For those curious about technology, the workshop also offers AI companion tools — simple to use, no technical skills required. These tools are designed to spark creativity, offer gentle reflection, and invite you to wander through language in new ways. You may find yourself drifting from art to philosophy, from poetry to memory, discovering insights along the way.
